God, You and Me!

I recently had the following conversation with “M”:

“Hi Jill, this is “M”.

“M”! I haven’t talked to you in ages! Are you still in Florida?

Yes, but so much has happened. Good stuff, Jill! I finished my certification program last spring and got a good job. My little guy and I were able to get our own place last month and we are doing gooood! I can hardly believe I’m ME!

I am so happy to hear that! Were you still living with your auntie?

Yes, and you’ll never believe this Jill. I started singing in the choir at her church and we’re still goin’ there. I’m making ‘Jesus’ friends for the first time – I can hardly believe it myself! I know you told me how important it was to find a good church to go to if I wanted to keep followin’ Jesus. I just thought I’d be judged for all my sh__– the baby, jail time, drugs, gang stuff.

But “M”, those people don’t know all that stuff. Well, I guess the baby part is obvious.

That’s just it, Jill. These people know it all now and they still accept me. They actually help me keep makin’ good decisions. A lady from the church watches “T” while I work.

Wow, that is how the church should be. I wish you could share this with some of my other teen parents!

You tell’em Jill! Tell ‘em how their life can be different if they let Jesus in and start makin’ good decisions instead of ‘ghetto’ ones.”

What an encouraging conversation to have with a mom from 4 years ago. BUT, I wanted you to hear this message from “M” as well! This is what we are doing together – God, you and me!

Thank you for being a part of the ongoing conversation with youth in our city and helping us share God’s story.  It’s our honor to be the storytellers on your behalf who meet kids right where they are and give life to their story.

Providing young people in our community with the opportunity to make an informed decision to be a follower of Jesus  Christ and become part of a local church.
